GPT

GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It is OpenAI's series of language models: GPT-2 (2019), GPT-3 (2020), GPT-3.5 (2022), GPT-4 (2023), and subsequent versions. The name describes the approach: generative (produces output), pre-trained (trained on general data before specialization), transformer (uses the Transformer architecture).

GPT has become almost synonymous with AI chatbots in popular culture. ChatGPT, the consumer product, is built on GPT models.
